The requirements which are imposed on the right medicine, have always been high and have increased in recent years with the rapid development of technology.  Central data management for rapid and complete documentation of cases with the test results, reports and the management of evidence objects, just to name a few, is a major concern.  SHADOW includes various processes and functions for the different departments of Forensic Medicine.  The scope of SHADOW covers the following subjects:

• Forensic Psychiatry
• Forensic Physics and Ballistics
• Traffic Medicine

The work processes in forensic medicine are complex, across departments and often are external bodies (laboratories, etc.) involved. Because the processes are strongly driven by external influences, often lacking the necessary Structure. The variety of organizational interfaces to internal departments or third parties such as police, courts, prisons, other authorities or to volunteers and members of high demands on the organization. Technical interfaces in the different laboratories for analysis devices and devices are an additional challenge in terms of data exchange, data management, quality and security of processing.

An existing, typical computer science solution in a forensic medical institute often consists of various specialized applications, some with "automated" manual interfaces to other applications or interfaces. The Data must often be detected several times. This inevitably leads to redundant data, increasing the risk of breakdowns and generate costs. I often find that different solutions are technologically incompatible. Such situations arise, not least the fact that the market although laboratory software for individual areas such as DNA or blood for alcohol determination is, but so far no software that meets the demands of legal medicine of customers.
